Microsoft Stores giving out free Windows Phones this weekend
OK so you like Windows Phones, but don’t necessarily want to shell out any money for them. This is a pretty high demand to make, however, you may get lucky this weekend if you visit a Microsoft Store.
Microsoft Stores across across the US will be giving away 8 free Windows Phones handsets per day.
All you need to do is go to a Microsoft store and play their “opportunity rings” game. It’s an instant win affair, so there’s no skill involved and is left entirely up to chance.
The contest stipulates that offer is available only in stores in the US, and there hasn’t been any word as to whether or not they’ll be available in any other regions.
So will you be making the trek this Saturday or Sunday? If you do end up winning one, let us know about the experience in the comments! Pics or it didn’t happen.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer is now online
Can’t get enough Call of Duty action? Well you’ll be happy to know that the official trailer is released and it packs a surprise.
The surprise isn’t necessarily a new weapon or game feature, however, it’s actor Kevin Spacey.
Looks like the House of Cards actor (he’s famous for other things as well) has lent not only his voice but his appearance to the franchise.
The trailer depicts the growing use of technology in the field of combat. Soldiers ride armored floating motorcycles, send weaponized, hovering droids into the field, and are equipped with super suits that enhance their abilities.
Check out the video below:
Are you excited to get your hands on this? Or do you think that Call of Duty has reached a saturation point and that all of the games are pretty much the same? Maybe you’re just happy to see Kevin Spacey in a video game, which will tide you over until the House of Cards game hits shelves (we wish.)

There was only a 3.9% growth in sales as compared to last year, suggesting that the entire tablet market may be reaching a point of stagnation.
“The rise of large-screen phones and consumers who are holding on to their existing tablets for ever longer periods of time were both contributing factors to a weaker-than-anticipated quarter for tablets and 2-in-1s,” said Tom Mainelli, IDC Program Vice President, Devices and Displays. “In addition, commercial growth has not been robust enough to offset the slowing of consumer shipments.”Apple is still on top of the game with 16.4 million tablets shipped in Q1 2014; a 9.6 million decrease from Q4 2014, and a 3.1 million decrease from Q1 2013. In spite of this decrease, Apple’s market share only subsided to 32.5%, only a .7% decrease from the prior quarter

Samsung to pay Apple $119 million for patent infringement
The Round 2 of Apple vs. Samsung legal war is coming to an end and once again Apple has ended up on the winning side. The US court has found Samsung guilty of infringing on two of Apple's patents and the company now has to pay Apple $119,625,000 in damages. There is a damages issue regarding the Galaxy S II, for which the jury will return on Monday to settle, at which point the final amount is said to increase slightly.
This is not as big a victory as Apple had hoped to achieve, as the company claimed infringement on five patents and asked for $2.2 billion in damages but the court only found Samsung infringing on two of the five patents and reduced the fine to $119 million.
The patents in question are for two features, the quick links feature that produces links for numbers and URLs in messages (patent 647) and the famous slide-to-unlock feature (patent 721). There was also a patent for word autocomplete feature (patent 172) but that was dismissed this time as it was found to have been infringed previously.
On top of the reduced damages, Apple would also have to pay Samsung, as the company was found infringing on one of the two Samsung patents, related to organizing photos and videos in the gallery (the other patent was not found to be infringed). For this, Apple will have to pay Samsung a relatively tiny amount of $158,400.
To be honest, both amounts are a small drop in the ocean for these companies but in case of Apple it has always been about sending a message to Samsung. But with Apple itself having been found to infringe upon patents, the message doesn't seem quite clear this time.

Samsung’s tablets right behind the iPad
IDC, a technology research firm, shows that the sales of Samsung’s line of tablets are catching up to the sales of the iPad.
Apple still controls the dominant market share, but IDC’s research shows that the Cupertino-based tech manufacturer isn’t growing. Samsung’s tablets, however, are displaying promising growth.
Data from Q1 2013 – Q1 2014 was considered in the report, where Samsung’s share was 17.5% to 22.3% respectively. Growth for Samsung adversely affected Apple’s sales, ultimately.
If the trends are any indication, it looks like the tablet landscape is becoming more of a level playing field, or at least it seems to be heading in this direction. Do you think that Samsung has a chance at grabbing not only smartphone, but tablet market share dominance as well?

“With roughly two-thirds share, Android continues to dominate the market,” said Jitesh Ubrani, Research Analyst, Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. “Although its share of the market remains small, Windows devices continue to gain traction thanks to sleeper hits like the Asus T100, whose low cost and 2-in-1 form factor appeal to those looking for something that’s ‘good enough’.”Samsung isn’t the only company taking jabs at Apple’s market share: Lenovo also saw some growth from 3.1% to 4.1%.

A leaked press release confirmed the information. The way the Duo Camera system works is with two lenses. The first lens processes the picture, and the second lens changes the focus on it. The system has both is fans and critics (moreso the latter), and it won’t be making an appearance on the Mini 2.
HTC has released a press render of the phone, but not an official list of its tech specs. Rumor has it that the phone will be packing a 4.5” screen with 720 x 1280 resolution, a quad-core 1.4GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 16GB built in storage, and Android 4.4 with Sense 6 to round out the software side of things.
Evleaks has already confirmed that the mini 2 will be released for Verizon, but expect it to be offered on other major US carriers as well.
